How to choose camping tent
August 18th, 2009 at 14:11When choosing camping tent we are lead by several key parameters:
How much water resistant is the tent?
Are the seams sticked together?
Is the camping tent double layered?
What is the material of the camping tent framework?
How much does it weight?
Do you feel it comfortable?
What is the price?
How much water resistant is the tent?
The water resistance of the tent should be at least 2000mm, which is the minimum for a real camping tent (Alfa, Sigma, Beta, Dart). Tents from a higher class can resist 3000mm of water (Tempest, Spectrum, Banshee, Spirit, family tents)
Are the seams sticked together?
The real camping tents always have sticked seams. This is mandatory quality and only tents with dubious origin are without sticked seams.
Is the camping tent double layered?
Serious tents are with double layers.
What is the material of the camping tent framework?
The materials for the tent framework should be fiberglass and aluminum. The fiberglass is the massive version – it does not make the price of the camping tent higher, but it requires more careful operation. The framework thickness is also important. The thin fiberglass framework make the tent lighter and lower its price, but be careful with the bending in order to avoid breakage. Thick camping tent framework are sufficiently stable and do not require special care in use, but they increase the weight of the tent. Aluminum framework is perfect – it is light and reliable, but it also affects the price.
How much does it weight?
If you are going to carry the camping tent on your back, the main parameter that you have in mind is the weight. It should not weight more than 1.5 kilog (3.3 pounds) for a person. This means that if you are going to carry two person tent it shouldn’t weight more then 3 kilograms (6.60 pounds). There are many variations of camping tents and most are around 3 kilograms. If it weights less than that, there is some compromise with materials, or there is expense of comfort and higher price.
Light tent at low cost means thinner framework or low water resistance.
Light tent with a high price necessarily means lightweight aluminum framework, aluminum wedges and optimized design and materials.
To choose a camping tent that best fits our needs, we first need to know what activity is required: to be carried on back, on a bike or car?
Is it going to be used in the whole year? How ofter?
How much are we willing to spend on camping tent?
What level of comfort are we expecting?
If it’s not going to be carried on back, we can afford more comfort – the weight is not more in great importance: we choose higher tent, with more space, with bigger entrance, for example for Beta 250, 350, 450.
Light tent at low cost or means reyki thinner or lower water column.
Light tent with a high price necessarily means reyki lightweight aluminum, aluminum wedges and optimizing design and materials, resulting in a higher price.
To choose a tent that best fit our needs, you first need to know what activity is required: to carry you back to the bike, the bike or car?
Throughout the year will be used? How often?
How much we are willing to spend?
What level of comfort we expect?
If not carried on the back, we can afford more comfort, the weight is no longer of great importance: choose a higher stall, in a spacious, with a great entrance, for example. Beta 250, 350, 450.
How often you use it, determines what class it should be – lower class if it is going to be used rarely and mostly in the summer, or higher class if we are going to use it often, during the whole year.
How much we are willing to spend – if you can afford it choose the perfect option: for double tent, which will bring in the backpack and use all year – around / under 3 kilograms, aluminum reyki, 3000 millimeters water column price around / under 300 BGN
Degree of comfort: The comfortable tents are higher, more spacious, with a large predveriya, but this affects the weight. Lightweight tents, which provide normal comfort are weighing less than 3 kilograms. Need to know what is more important for us – the tent is as light or be more comfortable. If you want super light tent, we can not expect great comfort and low cost. 2 kilograms of weight implies less living space per person. In this case, we should not pretentious in terms of comfort – 50 centimeters in width per person is enough.
